Modern Apprentices with Additional Support Needs require more support than a typical employee.
Not only are they just starting out on their career and therefore have limited workplace skills, they may have additional needs which other employees do not.
They need supported in 2 key areas:
- Their workplace tasks, which vary depending on their apprenticeship
- Their learning obligations, which also vary.
As a Disabled Student Allowance provider with over 20 years’ experience supporting Students with disabilities we have a huge amount of knowledge and experience supporting learning activities. As an Access to Work provider we have experience supporting a wide array of employees.
These 2 skill sets make it possible for us to fully support both parts of an Apprentice’s obligations; their workplace tasks and their learning tasks.
The key to successfully supporting an apprentice with ASN is to keep things simple. This stage is a key stage in progression. First job, new responsibilities, new colleagues – it’s a huge change. To throw on lots of Technology and extra training is counter intuitive and just adds more stress. So, we only cover areas which need support – all fully funded by Access to Work.
